In 1997, St. James Healthcare and Dr. Nick DiGiovine, Montana Orthopedics, collaborated to develop the Montana Sports Medicine Program. The program was created to provide all athletes and active adults in southwestern Montana with access to the highest quality health care.
The Montana Sports Medicine team is dedicated to preventing, educating, rehabilitating and treating sports-related and other injuries.
Under the direction of Dr. Nick DiGiovine, our Sports Medicine Team has been providing services to Butte and southwestern Montana since 1997. Significantly subsidized by St. James Healthcare, the Montana Sports Medicine program provides licensed athletic trainers to high schools throughout southwest Montana and to Montana Tech. These trainers work hard to keep student athletes healthy. Also available to the students are physical and occupational therapists and orthopedic surgeons.

Trey Vincent joined the Athletic Training team at Montana Tech in June of 2019.
Vincent has previously worked as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at Central Washington University where he earned his Master's in Integrative Human Physiology. Vincent received his bachelor's degree in Kinesiology-Athletic Training at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.Â
Vincent is originally from Helena and enjoys hiking, fly fishing, and spending time outdoors with his wife Mackenzie.Â

Adams joined the Athletic Training team at Montana Tech in June of 2019.
Before coming to Montana Tech, Adams, a native of Pocatello, worked with the sports medicine staff at Southern Utah University. Prior to her time at Southern Utah, Adams worked as an intern strength coach at Idaho State University while getting her Master's in Athletic Training. Adams received her Bachelors's degree in Exercise Science from Idaho State.Â

Nick DiGiovine, MD

Dr. DiGiovine, Orthopedic Surgeon, is currently a partner of Montana Orthopedics in Butte, Montana. Dr. DiGiovine has been the Medical Director of Montana Sports Medicine/St. James Healthcare and the Head Team Physician for Montana Tech since 1996. Dr. DiGiovine is an Orthopedic Sports Medicine Specialist, concentrating on surgery of the knee and shoulder. He also currently serves as an Orthopedic Consultant for the Pittsburgh Steelers and attends the NFL Combines in this capacity every spring. Dr. DiGiovine completed his Sports Medicine Fellowship in 1990 at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles, California. Dr. DiGiovine has been in private practice since 1990 and is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Di Giovine is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, The American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.

Holly Ferguson, PT, WCC - Director, Montana Sports Medicine/St. James Healthcare.
Holly has been the Director of Montana Sports Medicine since 2000. Holly has been a physical therapist for over 20 years and specializes in sports medicine rehabilitation and orthotics. She is also a certified wound care specialist, and completed her fellowship training in healthcare management in 2009. Holly is also the Director of Orthopedic Services and the Rehabilitation department at St. James Healthcare.

Chris has been the Head Athletic Trainer for Montana Sports Medicine/St. James Healthcare for over 20 years. Montana Sports Medicine and St. James Healthcare currently provides schools with athletic trainer coverage across southwest Montana. He also serves as the Manager of Therapy and Orthopedic Services at St. James Healthcare. During his tenure with Montana Sports Medicine he spent 10 years as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Butte Central Maroons.
